Ask Yourself

In "Ask Yourself," I explicitly reference the language of comics, using symbolic graphics that combine strong formal design with vibrant colours, reinterpreting a pre-existing pictorial structure. The use of a repertoire consisting of simple, instantly recognisable figures is a characteristic of my work, aiming to create an immediate effect on the observer. Thus, in "Ask Yourself," characters are represented by attributes: physical, including their body; and mental, social, and emotional, including their personality. It is the combination of these attributes that constitutes the person as a whole, and not just one type of attribute. In this work, I aimed to characterise this fact, showing characters experiencing their personality in another person's body.
Each of us has unique characteristics that make us who we are. We gain nothing by focusing on what we lack and trying to be like others. Instead, we would do better to learn more about all our talents/abilities and cultivate them. Then we can be complete people in our own right.
